Yes, you read well, fruit. Did you know that zucchini and squash are actually fruits and not vegetables?

Since squash contains seeds and develops from the flower-producing part of a plant, it is botanically a fruit. Squash isn’t the only plant that gets confused for a vegetable. Other fruits frequently called veggies include tomatoes, eggplants, avocados, and cucumbers.

Caesar Cardini had originally operated a restaurant in San Diego, California, but relocated to Tijuana, Mexico with the advent of Prohibition.  Like many restaurateurs, Cardini believed that a fine meal in the town required cocktails before dinner and wine with dinner.  In Tijuana, he could offer both.

Original Caesar Salad Table-Side Prepared

INGREDIENTS

• 1 romaine lettuce, split into leaves (discard the outermost leaves)
• 1 egg (see notes)
• Juice of 1 lime
• 2 tsp Dijon mustard
• 6 anchovy fillets, minced
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• Freshly ground black pepper
• 125ml high-grade extra-virgin olive oil
• 30g parmesan, finely grated
• 2 baguette slices, toasted

According to Caesar’s daughter Rosa, her father invented the salad when a Fourth of July 1924 rush depleted the kitchen’s supplies. Cardini made do with what he had, adding the dramatic flair of the table-side tossing “by the chef.”  Caesar salad is the most spectacular salad in the world!

MY STARFRUIT JUICE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

• 2 Starfruit cut into pieces
• 1 lemon worth of lemon juice
• 1 tbsp stevia
• 1 scoop creatine monohydrate
• 1 cup ice
• 1 cup water

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.   Add the starfruit, lemon juice, stevia, and creatine to the blender
2.   Blend
3.   Strain into a glass
4.  Serve garnished with a lemon or starfruit star
